Description
Located out of our Calgary office, the individual in the Analyst, Scheduling role will report to the Scheduler, Crude Marketing. The Analyst, Scheduling plays a key role within our Marketing business unit, supporting the Crude Scheduling team in executing accurate and timely nominations to pipeline operators. This position ensures Inter Pipeline Canadian Marketing Limited Partnership meets all contractual obligations through reliable physical delivery of crude oil. With crude volumes sourced from dozens of producers, the Analyst, Scheduling helps enable effective storage strategies and physical delivery execution. Working closely with the Crude Oil Marketing team, this role contributes to the aggregation, optimization, and movement of crude through IPL owned infrastructure to maximize value and meet downstream refinery specifications.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Provide support for all scheduling activities, including submitting nomination documentation, apportionment submissions, and coordination with third party scheduling teams.
• Build and maintain effective relationships across the industry, including upstream producers, midstream operators, and downstream customers.
• Conduct fundamental analysis on pipeline flows and market dynamics to identify meaningful shifts that could impact scheduling, logistics, or trading strategies.
• Support the Scheduling team to ensure trade capture systems and internal databases accurately reflect expected inventories and proactively communicate position changes to traders.
• Support inventory forecasting for hedging activities and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for back office teams regarding inventory inquiries and other scheduling related matters.
• Ensure accurate volume accruals so that we are capturing risk and credit exposures properly while also reporting accurate financial results.
• Contribute to ad hoc initiatives including student training and coordination, analytical support for new initiatives, and slide deck development for presentations.
Education, Skills and Experience
• 1-3 years of experience in the crude oil industry, with a preference for experience in Marketing or logistics.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher, with preference for Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as Power BI.
• Strong analytical capabilities and working with large datasets.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledgeable about the crude oil logistical networks in North America, with a strong understanding of the W. Canada markets.
• Working knowledge on how crude oil is priced, including differentials and equalization techniques.
• Works well in a team oriented culture and in a fast paced environment with an ability to prioritize.
