Description
We are seeking a motivated and analytical Trading Analyst to join our Marketing business unit. In this role, you will work directly with our Traders and Marketers, taking on responsibilities traditionally handled by the trading desk to enable them to focus on high‑value, revenue‑generating activities. This is an excellent opportunity to build foundational expertise in commodity markets, develop technical skills, and contribute meaningfully to trading operations.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
- Support Traders with physical and financial exposure management, ensuring daily alignment and accuracy.
- Act as a liaison between Trading and Finance to verify PnL accuracy and support results reporting.
- Enter and maintain contracts within trading systems, ensuring compliance and data integrity.
- Perform ad hoc analysis and modelling to support trading decisions.
- Provide operational support for physical commodity transactions and assist in resolving routine issues.
- Work collaboratively with traders and marketers to ensure day‑to‑day objectives are achieved.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and recommend system or workflow enhancements.
- Participate in ongoing learning opportunities to build knowledge of commodity markets, trading strategies, and analytics.
Education, Skills and Experience
- 1–3 years of related work experience.
- Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Internship or co‑op experience in Commodity Trading or Marketing is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to learn trading systems quickly.
- Experience with Excel macros or coding (VBA, Python, etc.) is beneficial.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- A demonstrated interest in commodity markets and a long‑term career within trading.
- Ability to take initiative and work with limited supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
Hours
Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day
As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of a criminal background check assessment with satisfactory results.
