Description

Ready to kick-start your engineering career? Inter Pipeline is hiring Engineering Interns to join our Transportation Technical Services team in downtown Calgary. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience with a world-scale energy infrastructure company. You’ll work alongside skilled Engineers and Technologists, supporting pipeline operations, project execution, reporting, and records management—while contributing to initiatives that drive operational excellence.

 

Key Activities and Responsibilities

Examples of responsibilities the Intern may perform, specific job duties will vary based on the position and team:
•    Assist in data gathering and analysis to answer questions from internal stakeholders, including Commercial, Operations Management, and Project Development
•    Ensuring all engineering work is reviewed and approved by a licensed Professional Engineer in accordance with APEGA guidelines.
•    Investigate pipeline historical operational conditions and create elevation maps.
•    Compile data and information to perform engineering assessments to support changes in pipeline operational status.
•    Assist in data gathering and reporting for regular information requests.
•    Support process of pipeline self-imposed pressure restrictions: documentation, tracking and resolving. 
•    Assist in the review of third-party documents
•    Perform basic hydraulics under the supervision of a professional engineer
•    Assist recording and tracking of asset integrity key performance indicators (KPI) 
•    Populate records management system with construction data (historical pressure test documentation, materials test records, coating types, etc.)
•    Conduct data analysis to identify common themes in pipeline systems.
•    Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) activities
•    Plan and execute system rate tests and analysis of results
•    Liaise with support systems personnel involved with day-to-day system operations and maintenance, verify input data pertaining to physical configuration, operations and control systems, and gain practical experience and knowledge of the systems
•    Attend site visits with other IPL personnel

Education, Skills and Experience

•    Enrolled in a 3rd year Bachelor of Engineering degree at an accredited Canadian university.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication.
•    Highly organized with attention to detail.
•    Collaborative team player with a positive attitude.
•    Adaptable and open to change.
•    Solid understanding of engineering and business fundamentals.

 

Hours

Location: Downtown Calgary  
Term: 16-month internship
Positions Available: 3

Full-time, Monday to Friday
Internship begins May 2026 and runs for 16 months

 

As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment criminal record check and education verification with satisfactory results.
