Description

Located in Calgary, the individual in the Manager role will report to the Director, Heartland Accounting. The Manager will oversee the Revenue, Costing and Inventory functions for the Heartland Petrochemical Business Unit. This role also supports business unit initiatives such as budgeting, various reporting requirements, SOX compliance, etc. 


Oversee the cost accounting team including:

  • Supporting month end activities to ensure accuracy of production costs and inventory balance
  • Monitoring and analyzing the cost of manufacturing polypropylene and the performance results of the plants
  • Overseeing the preparation of the annual budget/forecast for the cost of feedstocks and polypropylene
  • Supporting the presentation of monthly manufacturing performance results for the Heartland leadership team
  • Ensuring accuracy of feedstock intercompany transactions and working closely with other business units to ensure elimination of entries and proper treatment. 

 

Support the Supervisor, Revenue in overseeing the PSA and Revenue team including:

  • Overseeing the commercial allocation process of product, inventory and revenue of polypropylene to the propane suppliers and ensure the allocation model aligns with the propane agreements
  • Responsible for the accounting, analysis, reporting and invoicing related to the propane agreements
  • Develop strong relationships with the commercial team to ensure that customer requirements are being met
  • Developing internal and external relationships to understand and be proactive when it comes to factors that will influence the financial transactions related to the PSAs
  • Able to quickly develop a good understanding of the operating process and the underlying contractual arrangements
  • Ensuring accurate recording of sales and related freight costs in alignment with IFRS
  • Supporting development of freight analysis and other management reporting related to sales and freight. 

 

  • Ensure proper SOX signoff for cost and revenue streams
  • Work closely with the Supervisor, Reporting and Supervisor, Operations Accounting to ensure alignment across the team  
  • Develop improvements to processes and procedures, specifically related to inventory management, actual costing, commercial allocations and petrochemical industry leading practices
  • Provide leadership, motivation, and development to accounting staff
  • Communicate, present and respond to external auditors and external customer queries
  • Apply corporate accounting policies and auditing principles to ensure data integrity, SOX controls and audit trails are maintained; support internal and external audit queries as required
  • Duties may be adjusted on an as needed basis within the Heartland accounting team to meet business needs

 

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • CPA designation required with over eight (8) years of applicable industry experience and over three (3) years in a leadership role
  • Knowledge and experience in accounting under IFRS
  • Experience in corporate accounting
  • Experience in managing month end timelines and delivering results on time and accurately
  • Experience in a manufacturing business preferred
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
  • Effective team player that can manage relationships with interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
