Description

The Manager, Health and Safety is responsible for overseeing and ensuring corporate-wide support for strong health and safety performance. Overseeing a small but strong group of health and safety professionals, the Manager, Health and Safety will be primarily accountable for developing and implementing programs and procedures to ensure: (i) high-quality health and safety data and information sharing across the organization; (ii) focused assurance activities on high priority or high risk elements of health and safety; and (iii) practical and consistent governance related to high priority or high risk elements of health and safety is available. The Manager, Health and Safety will also be responsible for the Health and Safety program at our Corporate headquarter offices located in Calgary, AB. The role will work collaboratively across Business Units to achieve these accountabilities. This role requires a strong ability to build relationships, work effectively across the business, and promote knowledge sharing to foster a culture of safety and compliance.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to promote a collaborative and transparent approach to health and safety management including, to lesser extent, security, emergency management and business continuity programs within the center function and the other business units.
  • Work closely with business units to understand their specific health and safety needs and challenges while providing guidance and support to ensure achievement of safety goals. 
  • Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of certain Inter Pipeline’s health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with health and safety representatives across business units to accurately gather and consolidate data.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of health and safety metrics, KPIs and dashboards to monitor performance across the organization for all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide detailed reports and presentations on health and safety performance, highlighting key findings on trends, risks, areas for improvement as well as recommendations.
  • Ensure corporate health and safety requirements and governance are adhered to by organizational stakeholders, providing support and clarity on accountabilities.
  • Stay up to date on the latest health and safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices. 
  • Actively participate in industry initiatives to collectively improve health and safety management.
  • Facilitate cross-business unit steering meetings and working groups to discuss health and safety performance, share best practices, and identify opportunities to foster a culture of safety and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee internal or external audits to identify and mitigate risks providing clear, actionable feedback to stakeholders and support them in addressing identified issues.
  • Support the investigative efforts of health and safety-related incidents and near misses as required by regulators or internal requests.
  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures to ensure the safety at the corporate Calgary City Center location. 
  • Oversee the development and delivery of corporate health and safety training programs to educate employees on health and safety policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensure all employees are aware of their health and safety responsibilities and are equipped to perform their roles safely. 
  • Develop and follow up on actions required to address non-conformance to corporate governance, ensuring timely resolution and transparency.
  • Be an effective leader and provide support to team and organization. 

Education, Skills and Experience

  • Post-Secondary Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline (occupational health and safety, environmental science, risk management or other related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience in a health and safety management role associated with the development, implementation and overseeing of a health and safety, security, or emergency management program. 
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively ensuring that resources are being efficiently allocated according to priority.
  • CRSP or other recognized health and safety accreditation. security (ASIS), or emergency management/business continuity accreditation are also highly desirable. 
  • Strong knowledge as well as working knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices. This includes the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulation and code, Canadian Energy Regulation, Canadian Standards Association (CSA Z1000, CSA Z246, CSA Z1600), etc. 
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Proven experience in conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Strong understanding of IT systems including Microsoft suite and other enterprise IT systems including SAP, Workday and Enablon an asset. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders are essential.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work throughout Alberta and, to a lesser extent, Saskatchewan to engage with all company workplaces. 

Hours

Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
