Located in Calgary, the individual in the Senior Commercial Advisor role will report to Director, Supply and Commercial Operations.
This position is ideal for an experienced professional with a deep background in commercial operations within the oil and gas industry. The Senior Commercial Advisor will be responsible for managing and optimizing commercial agreements, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, and driving strategic commercial initiatives. The role demands critical thinking, exceptional attention to detail, and effective collaboration with both internal and external teams. The Senior Commercial Advisor will also lead ad-hoc projects, ensure smooth contract execution, and deliver actionable recommendations to support business objectives. Strong communication, initiative, and a solution-focused mindset are key to success in this role.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with commercial counterparties
- Manage existing commercial agreements, ensuring all obligations are adhered to as written
- Interpret contract terms and conditions accurately, and work collaboratively with team members/internal stakeholders to gain alignment in determining next steps
- Develop, recommend and execute commercial strategies
- Apply critical thinking in managing and resolving complex matters as part of a team
- Understand and have detailed working knowledge of how agreement terms impact financials
- Navigate internally / externally to gather all information required in progressing and resolving issues efficiently and effectively
- Review commercial inputs and contract terms with great attention to detail to ensure accuracy
- Conduct negotiations individually and/or as part of a team
- Develop and process amendments as necessary
- Develop sound presentation and reporting materials for Management and Executives
- Conduct sound analysis and develop recommendations for decision-making
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop viable solutions
- Ensure all leaders and stakeholders are kept abreast of issues, progress, and status
- Collaborate with several internal groups, such as legal, accounting, operations, credit and regulatory
- Actively take on/lead ad-hoc projects through to completion
- Resolve issues in a timely manner
Education, Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years’ previous experience in similar role
- Commercial-related experience required
- Oil and Gas experience required
- University Degree required
- Strong commercial acumen
- Takes initiative; foresight to see what is needed and takes action
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organization and prioritization skills
- Strong sense of urgency to meet tight timelines
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written

Location and schedule:
The position is Calgary based, office work 5 days a week Monday to Friday, 40 hour per week.
As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
