Description
Located at the Inter Pipeline Calgary office, the Senior Commercial Analyst will be a key member of the fast-paced, high-performing Transportation Commercial Team.
The Senior Commercial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting evolving business demands by providing high-quality analytical insight and commercial guidance. This position delivers essential analytical capacity across a diverse portfolio of strategic initiatives, helping to inform decision-making and drive business performance while ensuring continuity of key commercial activities.
With multiple high-priority projects underway and additional opportunities emerging, this role is key to maintaining the team’s ability to deliver timely, high-quality insights at pace. By enabling informed decision-making and supporting strategic execution, the Senior Commercial Analyst helps preserve overall team effectiveness in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Provide insightful analysis to support the development and optimization of Inter Pipeline’s Long Haul transportation assets.
• Develop and maintain economic models to support existing commercial activities and evaluate new business development opportunities.
• Synthesize analysis into clear business case recommendations; develop effective presentation materials and present insights with confidence to executive leadership.
• Communicate complex analytical concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Conduct market and competitor research to inform strategic decision-making and competitive positioning.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial advisors, customers, and internal stakeholders to support ongoing operations and strategic initiatives.
• Contribute to the annual capital budgeting process, as well as monthly and quarterly reporting requirements.
• Support problem solving through strong analytical thinking and creativity, proactively developing commercially driven insights, ideas, and recommendations.
• Effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong attention to detail and time management.
• Perform ad hoc analysis to assess transportation development risks and identify opportunities.
Education, Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Engineering
• 2–5 years of related experience in the oil and gas industry
• Progress toward a CFA or CBV designation is considered an asset
• Proven experience in financial modeling (DCF modeling is an asset)
• Strong ability to analyze and interpret large, complex datasets
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong skills across the MS Office Suite
• Experience with SAP and Power BI is an asset
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships
