Description

The Senior Analyst is a key member of the Heartland Finance team and is responsible for developing and maintaining robust financial models that support decision making, performance evaluation, and the assessment of new business opportunities. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across business units.

 

Based out of the Calgary downtown Inter Pipeline office, the Sr Analyst reports to the Supervisor, FP&A, Heartland Finance. 

Key Activities and Responsibilities

•    Own the development, maintenance, and enhancement of robust financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, valuation, scenario analysis, and comprehensive business case evaluations.
•    Lead in-depth analysis of financial and operational data to proactively identify trends, risks, opportunities, and performance drivers, translating insights into actionable recommendations 
•    Independently build financial models to evaluate investment opportunities and strategic initiatives using ROI, NPV, IRR, sensitivity, and downside-risk analyses, and clearly articulate financial implications and trade-offs
•    Act as a key finance partner to business units by leading the collection of inputs, challenging assumptions, validating data integrity, and refining model outputs to ensure accuracy and relevance. 
•    Drive continuous improvement of financial forecasting models, tools, and processes to increase accuracy, scalability, efficiency, and automation, including identifying opportunities to streamline and standardize workflows. 
•    Prepare, review, and support high-quality financial materials and presentations for executives, boards, and external stakeholders, taking accountability for the clarity, accuracy, and consistency of financial messaging.

Education, Skills and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
•    3-5 years’ experience in FP&A, investment banking, corporate development, or other relevant area of finance.
•    Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, scenario modeling, and data structuring.
•    Experience building integrated financial models (3 statement models, DCFs, operating models).
•    Strong understanding of corporate finance concepts and financial statements.
•    Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power BI is an asset.
•    Ability to interpret large datasets and communicate insights clearly.
•    Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Ability to manage expectations and prioritize work based on business requirements.
