Description

Supporting the Natural Gas Business Unit which includes the Cochrane Extraction Plant, Pioneer 1, Pioneer 2 and Red Water Olefinic Fractionator, the Senior Process Safety Engineer will report to the Integrity & Process Safety, Manager.  This position is responsible for the Process Safety Management Program and compliance to the program.

 

This position will be located in Calgary City Centre and expected to travel to the Cochrane Extraction Plant at least once per week.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

•    Support the facilities in improving and developing their process safety performance by focusing on relevant elements of process safety management
•    Support and/or facilitate, risk assessment activities at NGL processing operations which may bowtie analysis, hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), layers of protection analysis (LOPA) and other risk assessment techniques
•    Complete consequence modeling utilizing DNV PHAST software during HAZOP workshops to define the consequence severity rating for safety consequences 
•    Lead, the development of technical standards, practices and procedures as it relates to Process Safety including performance assurance standard development
•    Collaborate with engineering teams in coordinating and stewarding management of change (MOC) activities at the facilities, including risk assessments and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR)
•    Develop process safety KPIs and initiate follow-up as required
•    Participate in the development of short and long term PSM program strategies and goals for the continual improvement of the NGL Business Unit PSM performance
•    Manage and develop PSM corrective actions developed from Incident Investigations, PHAs, and audits.
•    Provide oversight and guidance in maintaining Process Safety Information such as P&ID's, PFD's, Cause and Effect Diagrams etc.
•    Facilitate or support investigation of Process Safety Events
•    Provide Process Safety engineering support to sites in areas such as facility siting, relief rate calculations etc.
•    Translate corporate and operational tolerable risks levels into process safe program deliverables

Education, Skills and Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma in engineering.  Engineers must be eligible for registration with APEGA.
•    Functional Safety Certification (Preferred)
•    Proficient user of PHA Pro and DNV PHAST modelling software
•    Plant operations work experience. 
•    10 years’ relevant work experience within process safety and risk management in relevant Industry (Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Chemical, Mining etc.)
•    Experienced facilitator of Process Hazard Analyses techniques such a HAZOP, HAZID, What-if, LOPA mandatory 
•    Experience conducting quantitative consequence analysis, Quantitative Risk Assessments, Bowtie analysis and SIL determination
•    Strong interpersonal skills including confident, supportive, collaborative, respectful.

Hours

Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week 

This position will be located in Calgary City Centre and expected to travel to the Cochrane Extraction Plant at least once per week.
