Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Supervisor, Volumetric Accounting, to lead volumetric reporting across IPL’s Conventional and Long-Haul pipeline systems. This key leadership role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant reporting that supports commercial settlements, audit readiness, and operational excellence. 

 

Based in our Calgary office, the Supervisor, Volumetric Accounting provides day to day and strategic leadership to a team of Analysts, ensuring volumetric data aligns with operational activity while upholding IPL’s commercial integrity. This position works closely with internal teams—including Scheduling, Measurement, Accounting, Commercial, and Marketing—to align volumetric data with operational and commercial activity.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

•    Translate corporate strategies into clear departmental and individual objectives that support a culture of excellence and create value for stakeholders through a strong commercial focus, proactive service, transparency, collaboration, and continuous performance optimization.
•    Provide day to day leadership, coaching, and guidance to Analysts.
•    Identify training needs and ensure the team has the skills, knowledge, and tools required to meet operational, commercial, and strategic objectives.
•    Manage team scheduling, including succession planning, vacation requests, coverage planning, and compliance with carry over policies.
•    Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high performance environment that promotes commercial focus, job safety, professional growth, and cross department cooperation.
•    Oversee daily volumetric accounting activities and provide guidance to resolve complex or escalated volumetric accounting issues.
•    Ensure stakeholder reporting needs are met and all required reports are distributed in a timely fashion.
•    Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Scheduling, Measurement, Accounting, Commercial, Marketing, Financial Planning teams.
•    Engage with industry associations and represent IPL professionally in external meetings and collaborative committees.
•    Support the resolution of customer escalations, maintaining a strong focus on responsiveness and excellent customer service.
•    Establish, update, and optimize work practices, procedures, and documentation to support efficient accounting operations.
•    Support current volumetric accounting business applications and the implementation of new business applications, system enhancements, and process improvements led by the Commercial Operations team.
•    Promote continuous improvement by seeking feedback, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing changes that enhance performance and stakeholder value.
•    Oversee EPAP, SOX, and external audits. Ensure all documentation is made available and maintained throughout each reporting period to support the audit process.
•    Provide leadership support on ad hoc projects, assignments, and operational needs as required.

Education, Skills and Experience

•    University degree or diploma, preferably in Business or a related discipline.
•    Minimum 8 years of industry experience, with prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
•    Strong coaching, mentoring, and team development skills, with the ability to build and lead a high performing volumetric accounting team.
•    Strong ability to influence, drive process improvement, and enable value focused decisions with a strong commercial and logistics mindset.
•    Deep technical understanding of industry IT applications (Polaris) and volumetric systems, with the ability to translate data requirements into efficient operational processes.
•    In depth knowledge of crude logistics, volumetric accounting processes, COLC deadlines, and industry standard timelines.
•    Robust understanding of industry rules, regulations, and contractual frameworks related to volumetric and logistics obligations.
•    Extensive understanding of equalization processes, guidelines, reporting requirements, and audit standards within the oil pipeline industry.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster strong working relationships across internal teams and external industry partners.
•    Ability to interpret contracts and commercial agreements and translate them into accurate volumetric outcomes and value aligned operational processes.
•    Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast paced, deadline driven operational environment.
