Description

Inter Pipeline is seeking an experienced Financial Trader to join the Marketing team. This role will play a key part in advancing Inter Pipeline’s enterprise-wide financial hedging and commodity risk management activities across NGL, Crude, Natural Gas, and related markets. The successful candidate will evaluate and execute asset‑-enhancing hedge opportunities, develop analytical market models, and contribute to the execution of Inter Pipeline’s financial trading strategies by executing financial transactions on behalf of the physical traders across the Marketing organization.

 

This is a dynamic and high‑-impact role for a commercially driven professional who is passionate about Trading, market analysis, disciplined risk management, and mentoring future talent within the organization.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

•    Evaluate, structure, and recommend financial hedge transactions across NGL, natural gas, and crude portfolios to support Inter Pipeline’s commercial and risk management objectives.
•    Responsibly execute financial transactions with speed and accuracy on behalf of physical trading teams.
•    Support the execution of financial trading strategies that align with Inter Pipeline’s risk management framework and commercial objectives.
•    Assist in monitoring, validating, and reporting financial trading activity to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency.
•    Develop analytical models to support commodity price forecasting, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
•    Create tools and methodologies that enhance trade strategy development
•    Leverage market intelligence, supply/demand fundamentals, and price analytics to identify hedge opportunities and enhance portfolio performance.
•    Work closely with Marketing, Heartland, Facilities, and Risk Management to ensure trading activities are accurately executed, scheduled, and reported.
•    Prepare and deliver market insights, forecast updates, and performance summaries to senior management and internal stakeholders.
•    Mentor junior and intermediate analysts, providing guidance on market fundamentals, analytical techniques, and financial trading concepts.
•    Support cross-training within the team to ensure operational coverage and strengthen collective capability.

Education, Skills and Experience

•    5–7 years of experience in financial trading, asset optimization, commodity analytics, or related energy market roles.
•    Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of futures markets and brokered trading environments.
•    Strong understanding of North American commodity markets, particularly crude oil, NGL, or natural gas.
•    Demonstrated experience with commodity hedging, derivatives, and market risk concepts.
•    Advanced analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and develop actionable commercial insights.
•    Proven ability to collaborate across diverse functions and deliver results in a fast -paced trading environment.
•    Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Accounting, or related fields.
•    Professional designations (CFA, FRM, P.Eng., etc.) considered an asset.
•    Strong experience with Excel and data analytics such as the use of Python and PowerBI.
•    Familiarity with ETRM systems such as Endur is beneficial.
