Description
Based out of the Conklin office, the Operations Technician, Instrumentation will report to the Supervisor, Pipeline Field Operations. The Operations Technician, Instrumentation supports various pipeline operations functions using a diverse skillset to support measurement, instrumentation, operations and works closely with both mechanical and electrical technicians in the day-to-day activities of the Conklin district.
This camp-based position will work a schedule of one week on, one week off. The successful candidate must live within a 4-hour drive time of Conklin, Alberta.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Day-to-day management and maintenance of pipeline operations activities, including troubleshooting and repair of all instruments related equipment including control equipment, SCADA systems, OMNI flow computers and PLC systems.
• Coordinate annual instrumentation inspections.
• Conduct operational activities such as meter proving, quality control sampling, station operation, pipeline pigging, sampling and monthly cutoff.
• Assist other departments with engineering projects, HAZOP’s, equipment reviews, technical recommendations and equipment installations.
• Conduct regular site visits to maintain assets in a safe, reliable operating condition, and maintain good housekeeping.
• Responsible for weekly and monthly compliance checks of pump station sites and mainline block valves.
• Participate in emergency preparedness and response.
• Supervise contractors and ensure that safe practices and procedures are adhered to.
• Participate in safety and operations meetings.
Education, Skills and Experience
• Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyman Instrumentation certification is required.
• 5 years + related instrumentation experience is required.
• Demonstrated proficiency with instrumentation equipment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
• Applicant must be willing to learn and perform operational duties.
• Previous operational experience is beneficial.
• Current H2S Alive, WHMIS and First Aid certification are also an asset.
Hours
• 7 on, 7 off, 12-hour shifts
As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, drivers abstract, and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
