Job Description

Located out of our Pioneer 1 site, the individual in the Operations Technician role will report to the Offgas Operations Lead. The Operations Technician is responsible for position is a key role at the LEP responsible for the day to day operational support for all plant equipment and assets.  Operations Technicians are accountable for the safe, reliable, compliant and cost effective monitoring of the plant equipment and assets related to his/her trade. More specifically, the Operator is completely familiar with all aspects of operations and provides coaching and training to junior personnel.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Have a solid understanding of all processing units and the functions of each major piece of equipment. 
  • Carries out routine operating procedures and duties including starting and shutting down of equipment as required, process monitoring and recording
  • Ensure all Operational duties are performed according to IPL procedures/policies/standards and guidelines.
  • Recognizes and avoids inappropriate risk – able to consider the consequence and impact before taking action.
  • Take immediate and decisive action during an emergency, Plant shut down, equipment failure or process deviation. 
  • Performs assigned activities such as; procedure development, equipment preparations and planning are completed to support maintenance activities and timelines.  
  • Assists in maintenance activities as required/directed by preparing equipment operationally, maintaining and /or repairing of equipment and plant systems.
  • Provide input and completes assigned activities from Operations Supervisor
  • Maintains an open attitude toward change and participate when change is appropriate.
  • Work well with a wide variety of people – works toward a win/win outcome with others.
  • Aid in troubleshooting and resolving issues pertaining to the operation.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation where required.
  • Respond to call outs as required to support Operational shift needs.
  • Vacation coverage overtime is a requirement
  • Ensures “housekeeping” in area of responsibility is maintained to a level acceptable to the facility including obstruction, oil wiping and cleanliness. 

Education, Skills and Experience

•    Minimum of a 4th class power engineer’s ticket. Preference given to 3rd class. 
•    H2S alive WHMIS and TDG are an asset
•    5+ years in a related operations position with control room experience.
•    Strong communication skills, good organizational skills and MS Office skills would be an asset.

Hours

Located out of our Pioneer 1 site based 25 minutes north of Ft McMurray, this position will work a 12 hour shift, days/nights and will be a 7 on 7 off rotation.

 

As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
