Description

Located in our Sherwood Park office, the SCADA Advisor plays a critical role at the heart of Inter Pipeline’s operations. As a key member of the Pipeline Operation Services team and reporting to the SCADA Supervisor, you’ll be part of a front line group that keeps our pipeline systems running safely, reliably, and efficiently every single day. 

 

In this role, you’ll be the go to expert for the daily support of Inter Pipeline’s SCADA system—providing real time remote supervisory control and data acquisition across all pipeline assets. You’ll collaborate closely with both internal teams and external partners, ensuring smooth execution of facility upgrades, maintenance activities, and system enhancements.

 

As a SCADA Advisor, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to (and even lead) major SCADA system upgrades and strategic technology initiatives. You’ll help shape the future of our control systems, strengthen reliability, and ensure our operations continue to meet the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

•    The SCADA System Advisor will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of all SCADA and supporting sub systems
•    Assist or lead in the troubleshooting of system, network and application failures as well as provided recommendations and / or implement resolutions 
•    Develop and identify system improvements that increase SCADA functionality, reliability, and security. Conduct routine backups as well as developing and improve upon IPL’s disaster recovery procedures and policies
•    Complete database, graphic, and communication modifications for pipeline station additions and upgrades
•    Stay current on new technology and industry initiatives related to our business and report on potential technical enhancements and/or economic benefits
•    Provide technical support, hardware/software configuration, programming and maintenance in areas of SCADA, Telecommunications and Reporting
•    Review, update and develop safe work practices, procedures, job task analysis and management of change documents
•    Participate in project execution as it relates to the SCADA environment 
•    Responsible for Project Management of internal SCADA upgrades
•    Review design basis memorandum, comment on and recommend equipment and vendor selection

Education, Skills and Experience

•    5 years related experience in the support and maintenance of SCADA systems
•    Post-secondary education in a technical field (engineering, engineering technology and computer system, etc.).
•    Must have general knowledge of AVEVA SCADA systems, 
•    Knowledge of data analysis tools (Excel, Access, etc.) is required
•    Knowledge of structured query language (SQL), computer networking, and UNIX/Linux and computer hardware.
•    General knowledge in scripting languages such as: (BASIC, Perl, C, C++, C#, VBA, etc.), and pipeline operations 
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including good presentation skills and ability to write technical documents/specifications. 

Hours

•    Monday- Friday full-time 
•    Participation in an on-call rotation required 


As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol, and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
