Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Control Centre Operator to join our dynamic Operations team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the heart of our control room, supporting system integration and contributing directly to operational excellence.
The Pipeline Operations Control Centre provides a tight-knit and family-like atmosphere, with a strong and supportive team environment. Based out of the Inter Pipeline Sherwood Park office, the Control Centre Operator will report to the Supervisor, Control Centre, Pipeline Operations.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Monitoring and controlling the remote operation of the pipeline systems including performing emergency corrective action as required
• Achieve scheduled deliveries for the pipeline in an efficient and reliable manner
• Provide input into SCADA screen design to enhance usability, safety, and efficiency
• Support the integration of new projects and technologies into the control room environment
• Adhere to all safety security and environmental guidelines
• Ensure pipelines are operated to maximize throughput while minimizing operating costs, specifically, per unit of energy consumed Stringent Monitoring of the leak detection systems to ensure pipeline integrity
• Maintain timely and accurate logs and reports to ensure that all pipeline activity is documented
• Monitor, resolve, and escalate operational and safety issues
• Provide courteous and precise communications with external and internal customers
• Assist with additional projects and extra duties as required
• Relief Operator shift may be required
Education, Skills and Experience
• Post-secondary diploma in a related technical program with a preference for Chemical Engineering, Power Engineering, or Petrochemical Engineering Technology and/or a Trade Certification (Instrumentation, Millwright or Electrical) with 2+ years of related oil, industrial or pipeline field experience
• Previous Control Centre Experience would be an asset
• Understanding of SCADA and Leak Detection would be an asset
• Good understanding of hydraulics and fluid properties
• Experience working shift work (days and nights) will be considered a strong asset
• Proven problem solving
• Ability to make sound decisions in pressured situations
• Strong aptitude for precision and organization while following standard operating procedures
• Computer proficiency including experience with MS Office 365
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration
• Strong communication, written and verbal is required
Hours
Twelve-hour rotational shift including nights and weekends.
As a condition of employment, commute to work must be safe, lawful and not to exceed 50 minutes of total travel time to or from the work location.
Overtime maybe required on an as needed basis for business continuity.
As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical with drug/alcohol and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results
