Description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations Accounting, the HPC Operations Accountant is responsible for providing accounting support for various duties including but not limited to: Central Utilities Block (CUB), Capital accounting and AFE support, plant operations and maintenance, providing cost tracking, performance/variance reporting, budget development and forecasting. The HPC Operations Accountant is a key member of the HPC Operations Accounting team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with business partners to complete all accounting required for the CUB asset including, journal entries, accruals, invoicing, reconciliations, forecasting, budgeting and reporting
  • Work with the Commercial team to ensure all accounting for CUB is in accordance with the terms of the owner contracts
  • Work collaboratively with business partners to review and progress requests for capital project projects spending including liaising with Project Managers and Manager of the Projects team
  • Prepare AFE’s in SAP working with Project Managers and the projects team including all required SOX documentation
  • Review Capital requests to ensure alignment with IPL and IFRS policies
  • Coordinate, upload and provide variance analysis on utilities, capital, operations and maintenance including forecasting and working with the FP&A team
  • Prepare in-servicing of capital projects in SAP including creating assets and all required SOX documentation
  • Support development of capital and operations budgeting including reporting and analysis
  • Support Turnaround activities as required
  • Support Operations accounting as required including meeting with cost owners, power BI reporting, variance analysis, month end, account reconciliations
  • Work with other business partners including plant cost owners, SOX, corporate reporting and FP&A as required
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and internal reporting as required
  • Duties may be adjusted on an as needed basis within the Heartland accounting team to meet business needs.

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant Degree (Accounting, Finance, Business) required
  • 2+ years’ experience in industrial plant environment preferred
  • CPA, or working towards CPA designation is an asset
  • Experience using SAP and Maximo would be an asset
  • Ability to identify issues or problems and present alternative solutions
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial results to non-financial cost owners
  • Competent with MS Office applications, specifically excel and Power BI
  • Effective team player that can manage relationships with interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems in a fast-paced environment, responding to multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of plant operations is an asset, including but not limited to turnarounds, capital projects, and production accounting
  • Knowledge, application and maintenance of IFRS, SOX and other changing internal accounting processes and controls is an asset
  • Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others.
