Based out of the Heartland Petrochemical Complex in Strathcona County, the Electrical Technician will report to the Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor. The Electrical Technician supports various maintenance operational functions, the successful candidate will use their diverse skillset to support electrical engineering, instrumentation, operations, and site projects in the day-to-day activities of the Heartland Petrochemical Complex.

 

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment at HPC.
  • Provide troubleshooting and problem solving with specific attention to risk awareness in terms of safety, quality, reliability, and plant operation.
  • Perform compliance verifications on plant electrical equipment to support the safe and efficient operation of the plant as well as custody transfer of utilities.
  • Perform rotational discipline planning functions for a team of up to 10 Electrical technicians.
  • Order parts and open/close work orders on CMMS.
  • Supervise on site contractors as necessary utilizing the work initiation process and contractor management process.
  • Provide technical leadership in design of new proposed Electrical systems and assist with commissioning, training, and spare parts strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership and project management for smaller projects as required.
  • Ensure engineered changes are effectively integrated into existing systems per Management of Change guidelines.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures where required.

 

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Electrical Journeyman ticket
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Plant maintenance, commissioning, start-up experience
  • Spare parts selection and rationalization
  • Instrumentation Journeyman ticket - considered an asset
  • 10+ years of post-journeyman experience - experience in oil, gas or petrochemical in a live plant setting. 
  • Confident to work at heights, climb ladders, work in hot and cold environments.
  • Experience in Power Distribution Systems.
  • Vendor training and/or experience with the following equipment: Maximo, SAP, Siemens LV MCC’s/ MV Switchgear, Siemens VFD’s, Powel MV switchgear, Allen Bradley PLC’s, Siemens generators, Siemens MCC’s, Thermon EHT, Haley, Ametek UPS and Watlow emersion heaters. 
  • Predictive Technology applications such as: Thermography, Motor Current Signature Analysis, Ultrasonic, PDMA. 
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting protection relays (GE & Schweitzer SEL).  

 

Hours:
This role will be an 80-hour rotation over 9 days. 

On call and/or periodic shift work may be required

 

As this position is identified as safety and/or security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, drivers abstract, employment verification and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
