Description
The Operations Technician, Polypropylene Plant (PP) is based at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) and will report to the Shift Supervisor. We’re looking for someone who cares about a great working culture as much as we do—because it’s the foundation of everything we achieve together.
The initial assignment will be to train and qualify in the Reactor/Purification field positions. The selected candidate will continue post qualifications as per HPC Operations Technician Progression Program.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Work closely with the PP Leadership and Operations Shift teams to execute operational targets, goals, and plans
• Monitor plant performance, maintain operating discipline, and take corrective action as required
• Safely operate and maintain the plant utilizing HPC Manuals, Operating Procedures, Operating Instructions, Value Added Tasks, and Daily Rounds
• Participate in unit startups, shutdowns, and turnaround activities.
• Participate in HSSE initiatives and demonstrate strong commitment to Safety at the facility
• Perform minor maintenance tasks as per Operating Procedures and Manuals
• Effectively communicate at shift handover
• Train and mentor others
• Prepare plant equipment for maintenance including de-contamination and energy isolation
• Material handling using forklifts and overhead lifting devices.
• Successful candidate is required to be a member of the Emergency Response Team
Education, Skills and Experience
• Power or Chemical Engineering Diploma preferred.
• 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate
• 10+ years of plant operations experience is required
• Petrochemical industry experience preferred
• Previous experience in a Polymer plant is an asset
• Strong technical understanding of plant processes, equipment, and automation
• Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Strong commitment to safety
• Attention to detail and well-developed interpersonal skills are required
Hours
• This position requires the ability to work rotating, 12-hour day/night shifts.
• Longer term this position will regularly rotate between console and field posts
