Description
Based out of the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC), the Senior Analyst. Assurance will report to the Senior Manager, Heartland HSSE. This integral role is responsible for designing, executing, and sustaining the assurance framework that supports Management Framework at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex. This role provides expert-level oversight for internal and external audits, work process governance, and corrective & preventive action (CAPA) systems. The Senior Analyst, Assurance acts as a strategic partner to all work process owners and focals, and site leadership to verify that systems are effective, risks are controlled, and performance meets regulatory and organizational expectations.
The Senior Analyst Assurance ensures that standards are well-defined, consistently followed, and continuously improved, enabling HPC to operate safely, compliantly, and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the development and execution of the site-wide assurance strategy and annual audit plan.
• Lead internal audits, targeted deep dives, and Management System reviews
• Coordinate and host external audits/assessments (regulatory, certification, corporate), ensuring the site is prepared, aligned, and responsive.
• Ensure audit processes meet principles of independence, evidence integrity, and professional standards.
• Integrate Management System expectations into all assurance activities, with a focus on critical control verification, operational discipline, and risk management.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of key work processes (e.g., permit to work, isolations, MOC, deviation management, incident learning).
• Identify gaps, systemic issues, and risks; provide clear recommendations, and partner with leadership to ensure effective resolution.
• Lead the overall CAPA system to ensure findings are risk-rated, assigned, tracked, and verified for effectiveness.
• Maintain a single, accurate source of truth for actions and findings across audits, incidents, deviations, and assurance activities.
• Partner with work process owners and focals to remove barriers, prevent recurrences, and address systemic themes.
• Develop and maintain assurance dashboards to track audit coverage, findings, corrective actions, themes, and performance against key performance indicators.
• Translate assurance data into insights for leadership; highlighting trends, systemic issues, and high-risk gaps.
• Present assurance updates to site leadership, and influence resource allocation and priorities.
• Train internal auditors, supervisors, and work process owners on audit methods, evidence management, process discipline, and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Coach leaders to strengthen verification routines, lead indicators, and behaviors that support a strong learning culture.
• Promote a culture where assurance is understood as proactive, value adding, and essential to continued growth and learning.
Education, Skills and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Quality, HSE, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of experience in petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, or heavy industry, with direct involvement in audits, operational discipline, or OE/quality systems.
• Demonstrated experience leading internal audits and managing external/regulatory audits.
• Strong knowledge of audit methodologies, work process design, evidence handling, and assurance frameworks.
• Working knowledge of key operational processes (MOC, PTW, isolation/LOTO, ORR/PSSR, deviation management, contractor management) and Management Systems (RC14001/9001, ABSA, etc.)
• Proficiency in SharePoint site architecture, document control, workflows, and digital record management.
• Experience with Power BI or similar tools for data analysis and reporting.
• Strong familiarity with RCA methods and risk assessment practices.
• High integrity and ability to manage sensitive findings with objectivity and professionalism.
• Strong influencing skills; able to gain alignment across diverse functions without direct authority.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, evidence-based assessments.
• Highly organized, detail oriented, and skilled at managing multiple workstreams in a dynamic operational environment.
Hours
Full-time, 9-hour shifts, every second Friday off
