Description
Based at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) near Fort Saskatchewan, AB, the Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer will report to the Manager, Reliability & Discipline Engineering. The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer will be an experienced subject matter expert, with responsibility for rotating equipment within the Propane Dehydration (PDH), Polypropylene (PP) and Central Utility Block (CUB) facilities.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Ensure safe and reliable operation of all site rotating equipment and auxiliary systems
• Work cross-functionally with operations and maintenance to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve rotating equipment problems that impact availability and utilization of assets
• Evaluate and execute changes and improvements to rotating equipment through the Management of Change (MOC) process
• Support the development and execution of capital projects related to rotating equipment; conduct assurance reviews to ensure design specifications, codes and standards are met. Perform project management for single discipline, simple scope projects
• Initiate and lead/facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and/or Causal Analysis for rotating equipment failures and incidents; share learnings and facilitate implementation of recommendations and preventative measures
• Ensure reliability threats and opportunities are pro-actively identified, prioritized, communicated and mitigated, including Bad Actors; act as a resource to risk rank threats
• Support Turnaround scope collection, planning, and execution
• Develop, optimize and own the short and long-term outage strategy for rotating equipment maintenance and overhaul
• Interface and collaborate with key rotating equipment vendors to ensure required level of support for troubleshooting and issue resolution
• Leverage condition monitoring tools (Bently Nevada System 1 and Prognost) and PdM programs (lubrication oil monitoring and vibration routes, etc.) to optimize equipment reliability and predict potential problems
• Collaborate with Operations to optimize and manage rotating equipment operating limits
• Lead interdisciplinary teams to devise and implement solutions for issues impacting availability and reliability of rotating equipment
• Own and champion the Asset Care Program for rotating equipment, including spares and PM optimization; initiate improvements to existing maintenance plans and equipment care strategies to drive continuous improvement
• Apply Reliability Engineering Principles such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Equipment Criticality; establish reliability KPI’s for rotating equipment
Education, Skills and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with APEGA registration as a P.Eng
• 10+ years of petrochemical industry or refinery experience in the field of rotating equipment
• Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:
• Polyethylene or Polypropylene Extrusion equipment
• large turbo machinery, specifically centrifugal and reciprocating compressors (Elliot and Burckhardt)
• condition monitoring tools (System 1 and Prognost)
• Exposure to Reliability Engineering and Asset Care principles and processes
Hours
Full-time, 9-hour shifts, every second Friday off
