Description

Based at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex, the Senior Facility Inspector will report to the Manager, Facility Integrity & Chief Inspector. This integral role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and regulatory compliance of pressure equipment at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC). 

 

The Senior Facility Inspector provides technical leadership in inspection, materials, welding, and quality practices, while supporting safe and efficient plant operations and advancing the Facility Integrity Management Program with a strong focus on pressure equipment safety and a goal of zero leaks.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

•    Ensure pressure equipment is designed, fabricated, operated, inspected, maintained, altered, and repaired in compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and standards.
•    Execute and maintain the Facility Integrity Management Program, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
•    Perform inspections of pressure equipment, piping, and tanks; analyze findings and recommend mitigation and monitoring strategies.
•    Plan and coordinate inspection activities, ensuring timely execution and alignment with integrity plans.
•    Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams to address plant issues, troubleshoot failures, and recommend repair or replacement solutions.
•    Approve and oversee pressure equipment repairs and piping modifications, ensuring quality and compliance.
•    Monitor asset health and Integrity Operating Window compliance to ensure safe and reliable operations.
•    Maintain accurate pressure equipment records and documentation for all assets.
•    Support turnaround planning and execution, including development of turnaround strategies.
•    Contribute to budgets and manage costs related to inspection and integrity activities.
•    Develop and maintain corrosion control documentation, inspection programs, integrity operating windows, and condition monitoring locations.
•    Support Management of Change (MOC) processes with technical integrity expertise.
•    Ensure timely resolution of audit findings, non-conformances, and regulatory actions.
•    Investigate pressure equipment incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence and integrity outcomes.
•    Direct and oversee contract inspectors, NDE technicians, and third-party service providers.
•    Communicate facility integrity status and escalate risks or issues to the Chief Inspector.
•    Support operational readiness and asset reliability initiatives.
•    Represent the organization professionally with contractors and external stakeholders.
•    Promote and uphold company core values, EH&S policies, and a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Education, Skills and Experience

•    7+ years of experience in a petrochemical or refining facility with direct involvement in a mature Pressure Equipment Integrity Management Program.
•    Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (ASME, API, CSA).
•    Working knowledge of applicable legislation including Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Codes Act, and Pipeline Act.
•    Proficiency with inspection and data management systems such as IDMS/PCMS and Risk-Based Inspection methodologies.
•    Strong technical, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Required Certifications
•    ABSA In-Service Pressure Vessel Inspector
•    API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector
•    API 570 Piping Inspector

Preferred Certifications
•    API 580 Risk-Based Inspection
•    API 653 Storage Tank Inspector

 

Hours

Full-time, 9-hour shifts, every second Friday off   


As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol, education, drivers abstract, criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.

Incumbent must be capable of performing duties at heights and within confined spaces, adhering to all applicable Occupational Health & Safety requirements, regulations, and safe work practices.
