Description
Located out of the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC), the Sr. Operations Specialist will report to the Manager, PDH Operations. This role utilizes strong operational knowledge, expertise and inter personal skills to improve plant performance and operating discipline.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to shift operators in the execution of operational targets, goals, and plans.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Assists in the development of standard operating procedures and emergency procedures for facility operation.
• Troubleshoots issues within the PDH process assets, as well as demonstrates an understanding of impacts from upstream and downstream operations relating to troubleshooting.
• Provides support to ensure PDH internal and external product quality targets are met, works closely with laboratory and analytical staff, and interpret product quality results
• Collaborates in start-up and shutdown activities as required i.e. preparation and execution of procedures for equipment isolation, maintenance preparation – to name a few
• Ensures timely review and updates to operating procedures, including management of change for procedures
• Provides input to Shift Supervisor and Operators to ensure process safety, reliability, efficiency, cost control, product quality and environmental compliance is achieved daily
• Utilizes expertise and subject matter knowledge towards solving complex operational problems. Recognized as an operations expert in Oleflex/Fractionation technology
• Monitors and optimizes process conditions through data analysis (PI Historian, DCS, etc.) and application of experience to ensure plant production and quality is maximized in a safe and efficient manner
• Assists in the coordination of reliability and maintenance activities including preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance
• Gives support to project teams and MOC coordinators to design, plan, construct and commission projects and MOCs; allowing for smooth transition and hand-off to from project to operations and maintenance
• Prepares operations coordination and input for expense and capital projects
• Leads Investigation associated with Operational events associated to process upsets.
• Leads and Supports Turn around scope and execution for the Oleflex unit.
• Supports ThoRR, Hazop, MOCs, Projects associated with the Oleflex unit.
• Leads and/or provides training to operators and plant personnel (control room training, equipment training, procedural training, critical task training – as examples)
• Contributes input to Operations Manager for annual O&M and Capital projects budget development
Education, Skills and Experience
• 10+ years of industry-related petrochemical operations experience in a large-scale manufacturing facility
• Certificate in power engineering (minimum 3rd class, 2nd or 1st class is a strong asset)
• Demonstrated experience in PDH technology (Oleflex CRO expereince is a strong asset)
• Solid technical understanding of PDH plant processes and equipment, maintenance practices, process safety, chemical safety, emergency response plan, work order process, the incident reporting process
• Strong analytical skills, strong communication and technical writing abilities, attention to detail and well-developed interpersonal skills are required
• Excellent leadership, collaboration, and team-building qualities
Hours
ull-time, 9-hour shifts, every second Friday off
This is a site-based position at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex, located just north of Fort Saskatchewan. This is a plant facing position requiring the applicant to be on site 100% of the time.
